The Ford Expedition Earns Top Marks in Government Safety Tests, Beating Out its Competitors

The all-new 2018 Ford Expedition has been a major success for Ford. It's sold so well, in fact, that the automaker recently invested in a factory expansion aimed at producing more of the popular SUV faster.

It's not hard to explain why drivers have loved it so much. The largest SUV in Ford's lineup, it offers a spacious interior, ample seating, a bevy of popular features, and even an impressive level of fuel economy for its size. Now the Expedition has another feather to stick in its cap: safety.

Following a battery of recent tests, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has awarded the 2018 Expedition a five-star safety rating. This makes it the highest-rated new full-size SUV on the road today, beating all of its competitors.

Why did it earn such high marks? Its military-grade aluminum chassis offers superior durability along with improved stability. It also offers safety features like pyrotechnic pretensioners. These help keep the driver and passengers in place in the event of an accident.

Speaking about the Expedition, Ford staff indicated that safety was, in fact, a major focus for them during its design phase. "As a father of four and longtime Expedition owner, safety was a top priority when engineering the entirely new Expedition," said Andrew Kernahan, chief program engineer for the Ford Expedition. "We are proud of the many features Expedition offers today that help keep our customers safe on the road."
